Career prospects with Sonia Romero: Pharmaceutical Consultancy

“Career prospects” is a series of talks by IMDEA Nanociencia alumni to give their view of their stay as researchers at IMDEA Nanociencia and their subsequent professional careers, with the objective of providing PhD students a vision for their professional development. The series will be held online in English, and will be open for everyone (no registration required).

Dr. Sonia Romero earned her Ph.D. in 2018 from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, where her research focused on the development of novel self-assembled DNA nanostructures. Driven by an interest in clinical applications, Sonia expanded her knowledge in nanomedicine, specifically investigating modified nanoparticles as therapeutic agents against cancer and rare diseases at the NanoBiotechnology group at IMDEA Nanociencia, led by Álvaro Somoza. This experience strongly inspired her transition into the pharmaceutical industry, where she deepened her focus on neuroscience at the multinational company Eli Lilly. During this period, she contributed to various innovation projects and supported cross-functional teams.

This enriching phase led Sonia to the field of pharmaceutical consultancy at Meisys, where she currently works as a Medical Advisor and Medical Affairs Project Manager. She closely collaborates with pharmaceutical companies and key opinion leaders to successfully implement the medical affairs or marketing strategies.
