Papers1

This article shows how the great cytotoxicity of Os(II)-CN complexes seems to be explained by fast aquation of Os–Z bond, the basicity of Os-H2O adduct and a perfect match with sulfur atoms as we observed in DMSO, cysteine or even thioredoxin reductase in living cells.

It was also selected to be featured as a supplementary cover of issue 47

Papers1

First first-author publication by Ana. Original research from her PhD work that got highlighted in the Inside Cover of Journal of medicinal Chemistry!!

A new family of iridium half-sandwiches drug candidates has been designed that presents a structurally stable tether-ring in aqueous solution. the cationic iridium-based compounds display exceptionally potent anticancer activity. Iridium intracellular accumulation is remarkably high and the compounds unambiguously target the mitochondria, dissipating their membrane potential and triggering oxidative stress.

Unambiguous Intracellular Localization and Quantification of a Potent Iridium Anticancer Compound by Correlative 3D Cryo X‐Ray Imaging. JJ Conesa*, AC Carrasco, V Rodríguez‐Fanjul, Y Yang, JL Carrascosa, P Cloetens, E Pereiro, AM Pizarro*. Angewandte Chemie International Edition 2020, 59, 1270-1278.

Papers1

Amazing work with fantastic collaborators!!

Iridium half-sandwich complex [Ir(η51-C5Me4CH2py)(2-phenylpyridine)]PF6 is extraordinarily potent in a number of cancer cells lines. By using 3D cryo soft X-ray and fluorescence tomographies, correlatively on the same cryo-preserved cell, we have unambiguously and exclusively localized and quantified our new iridium anticancer agent in the cell mitochondria.
