The talk will be given in two languages: Spanish (Wednesday 30th October) and English (Thursday 31st October), at 11:00. 

Place: conference hall, IMDEA Nanociencia.

  • Unconscious biases as part of human cognition
  • Functioning of gender biases work and how they operate unconsciously in decision-making.
  • Gender biases in our research work
  • Gender biases and stereotyping mechanisms in scientific institutions as a framework for gender biases in individual decision-making.
  • Naturalisation and reproduction of gender biases in science.
  • Some ways to reduce the effect of biases on our behaviour as members of scientific institutions.

The participation of all staff is highly encouraged, as it addresses fundamental issues related to criteria for excellence in research  and equality in Academia.

Short bio: 

Prof Capitolina Díaz holds a degree in Sociology from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) in 1984 and a PhD in Sociology from the University of London in 1994. She is currently Professor in the Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology at the University of Valencia (UV).
