Dr. Nuria Lafuente, former PhD student of IMDEA Nanociencia, has received the accesit of the "Margarita Salas" Research Award 2023 in the area of Life Sciences. Nuria Lafuente completed her thesis in the Nanobiotechnology Group at IMDEA Nanociencia, specializing in the development of functionalized nanoparticles for their application in cancer diagnosis and treatment. For this reason, it has received the accesit to one of the most competitive awards at the national level, with more than 400 theses submitted to competition. Nuria's thesis was directed by Prof. Álvaro Somoza, and successfully defended in July 2022.

The 'Margarita Salas' awards are convened by the Madrid City Council and the Margarita Salas Foundation since 2021, in memory of the researcher and biochemist Margarita Salas Falgueras, and awarded to researchers whose doctoral theses defended in universities of the Community of Madrid stand out for their scientific excellence, interest and scientific repercussion of the subject,  as well as the practical applications of the research content. Three prizes, and up to 10 accesits, are awarded in three categories: basic sciences, life sciences and environmental sciences.
