IMDEA Nanociencia has a suitably equipped dedicated space where basic biomedical knowledge (molecular and cellular biology, chemistry, nanobiotechnology, etc.) and advance optical technologies (Centre for Micro and Nanofabrication and optical labs for spectroscopy) can be applied to clinical practice under biosafety conditions to improve disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. The application of nanotechnology in healthcare is one of the strategic lines outlined in the "Severo Ochoa" program of the Institute. Also, the institution is recognized as an associated unit between the Spanish National Center for Biotechnology (CNB-CSIC) and IMDEA Nanociencia, and through that arrangement, the groups have access to other complementary facilities. The CNB is on the same campus within walking distance from IMDEA Nanociencia. Finally, within the campus, there are other institutions, such as Molecular Biology Center, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Materials Science Institute, Scientific Park, etc., with complementary equipment or facilities.
