Tomás Torres is Full Professor of Organic Chemistry at UAM, and since January 2011 Associate Senior Scientist at IMDEA-Nanoscience. Ph.D. in Chemistry (1978) from UAM, he carried out postdoctoral stays at the Max-Planck Institute for Biochemistry in Munich (1978-1980) and at the Institute of Organic Chemistry, CSIC, Madrid, (1980-1981). Then, he worked at Abelló, SA/ Merck, Sharp and Dohme (1981-1985) in Madrid. In 1985 he obtained a position as Associate Professor at UAM. In 2000 he became Full Professor.
He leads a research group of 30 people, and has published over 470 articles and reviews and 41 patents (27 licensed), and has supervised 40 dissertations. He has an H index of 71. Awards: JANSSEN CILAG prize for Organic Chemistry (2005), Research Prize and the Gold Medal of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry (2013) and the Linstead Career Award in Phthalocyanine Chemistry by the Society of Porphy- rins and Phthalocyanines (2016). Distinctions: Doctor Honoris Causa by the Ivanovo State University of Chemistry and Technology (ISUCT) Russia, 2009, Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) (UK) in 2014, and Doctor Honoris Causa by the Universidad Miguel Hernández of Elche in 2016.
