Prof. Nazario MARTÍN

nazarioNazario Martín is full professor of Organic Chemistry at the University Complutense of Madrid and vice-director of the Institute for Advanced Studies in Nanoscience of Madrid (IMDEA-Nanoscience). Dr. h.c. by La Havana University, Professor Martín's research interests span a range of targets with emphasis on the molecular and supramolecular chemistry of carbon nanostructures such as fullerenes, carbon nanotubes and graphene, p-conjugated systems as molecular wires and electroactive molecules, in the context of electron transfer processes, photovoltaic applications and nanoscience. He has published over 500 papers in peer reviewed journals, given around 350 lectures in scientific meetings and research institutions, and supervised 34 theses (Ih = 62). He has co-edited seven books related with carbon nanostructures and he has been invited as guest editor for nine special issues in well-known international journals. Professor Martín has been visiting professor at UCSB and UCLA (California, USA) and Angers and Strasbourg (France) universities. He has served as a member of the Editorial Board of Chemical Communications, and as General Editor of the Spanish journal Anales de Química (2000-2005). He has been a member of the International Editorial Advisory Board of The Journal of Materials Chemistry (2000-2006) and a member of the Board of The Journal of Organic Chemistry and Accounts of Chemical Research (ACS), ChemPlusChem, ChemSusChem and Chemistry-an Asian Journal (Wiley-VCH), and a member of the International Advisory Board of Chemical Society Reviews and Chemical Communications (RSC). Recently he became the Edictor-in-Chief of The Journal of Materials Chemistry (A, B and C). He is a member of the Royal Academy of Doctors of Spain (2006) and the Academy of Sciences of Spain (2015), as well as a Fellow of The Royal Society of Chemistry. In 2006-2012 he has been the President of the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry. He has been the recipient of the “Dupont Prize of Science” in 2007 and of the “Gold Medal and Research Award” in 2012, the highest distinction given by the Spanish Royal Society of Chemistry. He has been appointed with the Spanish national “Jaime I Award for basic research” 2012 (received from her Majesty The Queen), and the recipient of the “Alexander von Humboldt Award” (Germany) and “Richard E. Smalley Research Award” (USA) in 2013. He has been distinguished with the “EuCheMS Lecture Award” in 2012. He has received the Catalán-Sabatier award from the French Chemical Society in 2014 and the prestigious “Miguel Catalán” award from the Madrid Community in 2015.
He has been appointed as the President of the Confederation of Scientific Societies of Spain (COSCE) in 2015. In 2012 he received the “Advanced Grant” of the European Research Council (ERC) entitled “Chirallcarbon”.

Dr. Agustín MOLINA

Agustín Molina Ontoria was born in 1981 in Madrid, Spain. He obtained his degree in Chemistry in 2006 at Universidad Autónoma of Madrid. He started his research in Inorganic Chemistry at the same University, under supervision of Dr. Salomé Delgado Gil. In 2006, he moved to Prof. Nazario Martin group in the Universidad Complutense of Madrid, where he earned his Ph. D. for researching about charge transfer processes in covalently linked [60]fullerene and ex-TTF systems by molecular wires as the spacers. Then, he spent almost 3 years in the University of Texas at El Paso (Texas) for a postdoctoral position with the group of Prof. Luís Echegoyen. In 2014, he joint IMDEA Nanoscience as postdoctoral position under the “Marie Curie” AMAROUT II European program. His research activities include development of hole and electron transporting materials for highly efficient Perovskite Solar Cells.

Dr. José SANTOS

José M. Santos Barahona graduated in Chemistry in 2005 at Complutense University of Madrid (UCM). He obtained his PhD in 2010 under supervision of Prof. Nazario Martín and Dr. Beatriz Illescas, Organic Molecular Materials Group at UCM, his thesis topic was fullerene based electroactive systems from both supramolecular and covalent approach; during his PhD he spent three months in a short research stay with Prof. James R. Durrant at Imperial College London familiarizing with transient absorption experiments. From 2011 until 2014 he was Postdoctoral Research Assistant with Prof. Martin R. Bryce in Durham University (UK), in this position he researched new deep-blue emitting copolymers for OLED and thermally activated delayed fluorescence materials (TADF). Since 2014 he moved to Madrid to join IMDEA Nanoscience to develop new materials with low band gap properties with Prof. Nazario Martín as postdoc researcher under the AMAROUT II program.

Rafael SANDOVAL

Rafael Sandoval Torrientes was born in Logroño (Spain) in 1988. He obtained his degree in Chemistry in 2011 at the Universidad de la Rioja (Logroño). Then he moved to Universidad Complutense de Madrid and he earned his MSc in Organic Chemistry in September 2013. In December 2013, he started his Ph.D. under the supervision of Dr. Juan Luis Delgado and Prof. Nazario Martin. He is currently researching on the synthesis of new [60]fullerene based materials for the preparation of Photovoltaic devices.

Javier Urieta Mora was born in 1990 in Madrid, Spain. He obtained his degree in Chemistry in 2014 at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and a Master degree in Organic Chemistry in 2015 at the same University. In September 2015, he joined the group and started his Ph.D. under the supervision of Dr. Agustín Molina Ontoria and Prof. Nazario Martín. His research interests are focused on materials for energy. He is currently researching on the synthesis of new hole-transporting materials for Perovskites solar cells.
