Dr. Beatriz Hernández Juárez
Beatriz H. Juárez is associated professor at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (from Sep 2012) and former researcher in the “Ramón y Cajal” programme at IMDEA Nanociencia (2008-2012). She received a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) in 1999 and a Ph.D degree in Material Sciences from the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) in 2005. The topic of her dissertation focused on Photonic Crystals and was supervised by Prof. C. López (http://luxrerum.icmm.csic.es/). Dr. Beatriz H. Juárez also worked for almost 2 years in Lucent Technology, a factory devoted to the fabrication of microelectronic circuits in a clean room laboratory.
After finishing the PhD, she moved to the Laboratoire de Photonique Quantique et Moléculaire (LPQM) in Paris. After a short stay, she joined the group of Prof. Dr. Horst Weller in Hamburg with a Marie Curie Individual Fellowship. Dr. Juárez received in 2009 the junior nanotechnology prize given by AGENT-D.
The Semiconductor Nanoparticles group (http://www.nanoscience.imdea.org/nanoparticles-lab) is mainly dedicated to the synthesis of colloidal semiconductor nanoparticles (quantum dots). The main research line includes the synthesis of colloidal nanocrystal (mainly semiconductor nanocrystals or quantum dots in 0, 1, and 2D as well as hybrid systems) with the aim to design rules for optimal nanocrystals performance.
Special emphasis is given to surface chemistry studies by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy and X-ray absorption Spectroscopy and characterization by advanced optical and microscopical techniques.
